BUSINESSMAN,Aubrey Hutson, yesterday defeated Army Major, Shen Fung, six votes to three to return as president of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) for a second term, when the body held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election of office bearers at the National Resource Centre on Woolford Avenue.Hutson will continue to head the AAG for another four years, and stated that he was honoured to be re-elected to the post. Hutson said that in going forward, the association will be looking to work with a plan that allows room for more personalisation.
“Our plan will have to constantly be tweaked based on the personnel that we are having.(We)understand athletics is very dynamic,so we would have to constantly work.
It has to do with development, development, development, it has to do with sitting with the coaches, so we can work with their athletes for them to run the kind of times and jump the distances that will get us Olympic medals.
It’s a constant process, it’s not a one brush paint all. There’s not one way to raise an athlete or coach an athlete so we have to constantly work with them.
Our plan is,yes,we want to get medals at the Olympics, but it’s based on what we have;we have to work with it to move our sport forward,” Hutson told the media corps following his re-election yesterday.
He will be supported by a team of executives that will include vice- presidents,Amanda Hermanstine,Assistant Superintendent of police, and Colin Ming, who respectively received six and five votes to take their positions.
Hermanstine and businessman Mr Ming received more votes than Godfrey Washington and Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) Secretary General, Hector Edwards, who each had three votes.
Also in the pool, but not making it through was former AAG president, Colin Boyce.
Hermanstine ascended from her previous position as assistant treasurer. Niall Stanton was also returned to his position as the Association’s treasurer. Taking over from Hermanstine, as assistant treasurer, will be former athlete Elton Bollers.

Other members elected were the five committee members:Keith Campbell, who topped the pool with seven votes, Lyndon Wilson (6), Yvonne October (6), Silus Brummell (5) and Buster Wright (4).
