Albouystown man remanded for gun, ‘ammo’ possession

AN unemployed Albouystown man was on Thursday remanded to prison by City Magistrate Faith McGusty after he was detained and subsequently charged for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.Odell Hicks, 27, of Independence Boulevard, denied the allegation, which stated that on January 17, at Mandela Avenue, he had in his possession one .38 pistol and three live matching rounds.

According to prosecutor Sean Blackman, on Tuesday night, police ranks were on mobile patrol on Mandela Avenue, when they observed Hicks, who was riding a bicycle in the vicinity of ‘The Well’, drop a metal-like object upon seeing them and attempted to escape.

When a search was made of the area, Blackman said, the police found the firearm and ammunition.

The matter has been adjourned until February 9.
