A RESIDENT OF Westminster, Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was on Tuesday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, for the possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Moraino Wilson, 23, a vendor, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that between January 6 and January 7, 2017 at Sussex Street, he had 4.624 kilograms of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Wilson’s lawyer, Madan Singh in his application for bail, explained to the court that the alleged package containing the illicit drug was not found in his client’s possession.
Singh further pointed out that the package was left at a location and Wilson was called to collect it, not knowing what was inside. However, Police Prosecutor Inspector Neville Jeffers strongly opposed to Wilson being released on bail.

According to the Prosecutor, upon his arrest, Wilson confessed to owning the drugs, and told the police, “It’s a small hustle I trying to do.”
The Chief Magistrate denied bail and transferred the matter to City Magistrate Judy Latchman for January 23, 2017.
According to reports, on January 7, 2017, at about 13:20 ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch intercepted two boxes with cannabis at a Sussex Street Wharf waiting to be shipped to Port Kaituma, North West District (NWD).
Acting on this information, the boxes were searched and 13 kilograms of cannabis were discovered.
