Murder accused loses no-case submission.

MURDER accused Mark Thompson who was not ready to begin his defence for the murder of Jose Rodrigues De Oliviera on August 7, 2010, will begin his defence on Tuesday, December 6.
Following the closure of the prosecution’s case by Miss Tamieka Clarke and Miss Tuanna Hardy, defence counsel Mr. Peter Hugh and Miss Latchmi Rahamat did not lead a defence, but made a no-case submission in the absence of the jury on behalf of their client.
Presiding judge, Mr. James Bovell-Drakes, who heard the submissions in the absence of the jury, delivered his ruling yesterday by over-ruling the no-case motion.

The statement by the accused in the first voir dire was found to be freely and voluntarily given to the police
The alleged killing is said to have taken place at Meladinko, Aranka Backdam, Cuyuni River, Essequibo.
The prosecution is contending that Thompson murdered Jose Rodrigues De Oliviera on the 7th day of August, 2010 in the county of Demerara.
