A Police Corporal is battling for his life at the intensive care unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital after sustaining serious injuries from a vehicular accident.

This newspaper understands that Corporal 21415 Satesh Narine was driving along the Southern carriageway when his car collided with a Heifer and its calf along the Suzanna Public Road Corentyne at around 2:00h on Monday.

Corporal Narine is the Subordinate Officer in charge of Albion Police Station. Reports indicate that the animals were lying on the darkened roadway when the accident occurred.

As a result of the impact, the vehicle was tossed into the nearby waterway. Upon hearing the impact, residents rushed to the scene and removed the semi-conscious policeman from the car. They rushed him to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was admitted and subsequently transferred to the GPHC.

Berbice Traffic Chief, Superintendent Budnarine Persaud revealed that the rank suffered from fractures to both hands, shoulders and his lower extremities. Police are yet to arrest the owner of the branded animals.
