Chattergoon, Baldeo spearhead ACC to double wins

TWO solid half-centuries from former West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon and a five-wicket haul from Balchand Baldeo spearheaded Albion Cricket Club (ACC) to contrasting wins over Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets and Port Mourant when play in the TENELEC Inc. 50-over cricket continued last weekend in Berbice.At Area ‘H’ on Saturday, the hosts won the toss and inserted Albion to bat first. They reached a respectable 191-9 in 44 overs. Chattergoon scored a crucial 62. He got support from Sharaz Ramcharran, 45. Bowling for RHT Gizmos and Gadgets, Clinton Pestano took 2-30 off 7 overs.
In reply, the hosts were bowled out for a disappointing 114 runs in 27 overs to lose by 77 runs. Pestano topscored with 45. He got little support from Royston Crandon with 20. Off-spinner Balchand Baldeo spun web around the batsmen, taking 5-25 off 7 overs.
Over at Port Mourant ground on Sunday, Albion batted first and again had a poor start before recovering to make 208-9 off their allotted 50 overs.
Chattergoon once again led the recovery with a patient 65, with six fours and a six. He got support from David Latchaya 35, Veerapen Permaul 32 and Ramcharran 23. Bowling for the hosts, national middle-order batsman Chanderpaul Hemraj took 2-15, Dimitri Cameron 2-21 and Kellon Carmichael 2-48.
In reply, Port Mourant struggled throughout their innings and were eventually bowled out for 150 to lose by 58 runs. Samuel Kistasammy top-scored with a fighting 50. Bowling for ACC, the consistent Baldeo took 2-19, and Latchaya 2-34.
