THE Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) will continue to reap the benefits of having Edward B. Beharry as one of its sponsors.The company yesterday handed over a sum of money to the union to aid the Green Machine in this year’s Rugby America’s North (RAN) Sevens Championship, billed for November 12-13 in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
During a press briefing yesterday, Kamini Naresh, the company’s brand manager noted that the company was proud to continuously support the nation’s most successful outdoor sports team.
She added that Beharry is committed to supporting the union and wished them well at the tournament. Marketing Manager, Satesh Singh, reminded the media that the company and rugby have forged a friendship
President of the union, Peter Green, reminded his charges that sponsorships such as Beharry’s must be rewarded with nothing less than excellence.
The tournament will see Guyana with both men and women’s teams participating.
For the men’s division, 14 nations have been listed with three in Pools A&B and four each in groups C&D. In pool A, Canada, Bermuda and the British Virgin Islands will battle, while pool B will have Mexico, St Vincent and the Grenadines and hosts Trinidad.
Pool C will have The Cayman Islands, Barbados, Curacao and The Dominican Republic, while Guyana will take on Jamaica, the Turks and Caicos Islands and Martinique in pool D.
On the distaff side, there are two pools of five teams each, with Canada, Jamaica, The Cayman Islands, Bermuda and the Turks and Caicos Islands in Pool A and Pool B featuring Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, The Bahamas and The Dominican Republic.(Stephan Sookram)
