What remains of the minibus following the deadly accident on Friday

A ROUTE 72 minibus from Mahdia, Region 8, crashed into a parked logging truck in the vicinity of Moblissa on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway in Region 10, on Friday night; and businesswoman Bridget Alleyne died on the spot, according to an eyewitness account. Her husband, Peter, popularly known as “Brother Peter”, survived the accident. time, died while seeking medical attention at the Linden Hospital Complex; and a fourth passenger was said to be in critical but stable condition.

According to an eyewitness, the bus was heading to Georgetown from Mahdia sometime after dusk, and was in the vicinity of the Moblissa Bridge when it collided with the rear of the truck which was packed with logs, even though the driver attempted to swerve from the truck. Reports suggest that no reflectors or lights were visible on the truck.

The minibus was damaged beyond repair, and rescuers were forced to cut open the mangled vehicle in order to free the injured.mahdia-bus-1

Police in the mining town are investigating the accident.
