A MAN who has been on the run for 17 years was finally caught and charged with the 1999 murder of 34-year-old miner, David Ramcharran.Philbert Edwards, known as ‘Fiddi’, 38, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan Thursday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge of murder.
Edwards of Princesville Village, Potaro River, Region eight, was not represented and was remanded to prison until January 17, 2017 when he is slated to appear at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on May 3, 1999 at 7 Miles Mahdia, Edwards murdered Ramcharran.
Reports indicate that Edwards recently wounded someone and he was arrested for that offence. However during questioning by the police, he reportedly confessed to killing Ramcharran.
