High Court trial for carpenter charged with ‘Fish Shop’ murder

THIRTY- seven-year old carpenter Mark Anthony Barclay of Lot 38, Houston Back Street, East Bank Demerara was committed to stand trial in the High Court for the murder of Gordon Ross.Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan made her ruling based on the facts presented by the Prosecutor; she stated that sufficient evidence was led by the prosecution to have the defendant stand trial in the High Court at the next sitting of the Demerara Assizes.

It is alleged that on April 30, 2016, Barclay murdered Ross outside the White Castle Fish Shop at John and Hadfield Streets, Werk-en-Rust.

According to reports, in the wee of hours of the morning around 01:40h, Barclay and Ross had a fight over food. Ross was later found with stab wounds about his body and some of his teeth were missing. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
