Greenwich Primary emerge winners of East Bank Essequibo Zone

Greenwich Primary emerged the winners of the East Bank Essequibo Zone after they defeated Zeelugt Primary by 117 runs in the final of the GCB/Scotiabank Kiddy Progression One Cricket at the Tuschen Community Centre ground. Greenwich Primary batted first and amassed a mammoth 197/3 off their allotted 14 overs. Shane Rodrigues struck a brilliant 110 while M. Khan made 27 and K. Smith 17. In reply, Zeelugt Primary could only muster 80/4. Adesh made 42 for Zeelugt, while Rodrigues took two wickets for Greenwich.
Building up to the final of the Zone,a number of preliminary matches were played during the course of the day. St. Lawrence Primary defeated Philadelphia Primary in one of those games. The winners took first strike and managed to post 99-9 off their allotted 14 overs. Navine Harripersaud top scored with 33.Anthony Joseph took three wickets for St. Lawrence.
St. Lawrence in reply, reached the target losing six wickets in the process. Anthony Joseph made 26 and Suresh Narine supported him well with 24.
In another match, Blake Primary defeated Tuschen Primary by 7 wickets. Batting first, Tuschen scored 151 all out. In reply,Blake Primary reached their victory target of 152 for the loss of three wickets. S. Rupi top scored with 49 and Mickey Sumaroi made 35.
Zeelugt Primary got the better of Parika Primary in their match-up. Taking first strike, Zeelugt managed to reach 142 with V. Dass hitting 52. In reply,Parika were restricted to 74. V. Dass had a very good all-round match, as he picked up four wickets to add to his top-score.
Greenwich Primary held off Parika/Salem in a one-sided match. Parika/Salem scored 113, with M. Khan making 32. Parika/Salem in their chase could only muster 60. Greenwich won by 53 runs.
In the semi-final encounter, Greenwich Primary defeated Blake Primary. Greenwich took first strike and managed 180-6, with B. Veerasammy hitting a magnificent 103. M. Khan supported with 16. Blake Primary in reply, could only reach 114-3,with Mickey Sumiah making a valuable 48.
In the other semi-final, Zeelugt Primary got the better of St. Lawrence by 71 runs. Batting first,Zeelugt posted 128 while St. Lawrence could only respond with 57.
