NOTORIOUS gunman, Rawle Franklin called ‘Mad Max’will appear in court today to answer to charges of illegal possession of a gun and matching ammunition.Police,during a ‘stop and search’ exercise on Saturday night found the items among three men, including Franklin,in the East La Penitence, Geogetown area.

The two other occupants are both 38 years old and reside in North Ruimveldt and Sophia, respectively.

Police said that at about 22:00 hrs, ranks of a mobile patrol observed the men in a white Toyota Premio, in the La Penitence area, acting suspiciously, and decided to stop and search the vehicle and its occupants.

During the search, police said a .40 Smith and Wesson Pistol with 14 matching rounds were found in possession of one of the men, who has several criminal charges, inclusive of robbery under arms,pending before the court.

Sources close to the investigation identified the man as Rawle Franklin 28, of Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.

Reports revealed that in August 2015, Franklin, who was wanted for at least 20 gun-related crimes,turned himself into the Sparendaam Police Station. He was then charged and remanded to prison. Additionally, he was charged with attempted murder and discharging of a loaded firearm with intent to harm.

Record also revealed that in 2014, four matters against him were dismissed because of want of prosecution, while two were dismissed in 2015. Investigations are continuing.
