SURINAME’s national U-19 FUTSAL team once again made light work of their Guyanese counterparts when the two sides met yesterday morning at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), the final day of competition for the two nations in the annual Inter Guianas Games. The 12-2 demolition of the home side improved the tally of both teams by a goal following Saturday’s 11-1 hammering by the young Dutch. The victory also ensured the visitors the series after the organisers called off the 3rd game which should have been played after lunch yesterday. The decision not to play the final as was scheduled certainly saved the young Guyanese from further humiliation.
Stefano McDonald opened the scoring in the 6th minute and added two more in the second period to lead all scorers of the contest with a treble, while Terence Aroeman and Elyah Pengel netted a double a piece. There was one each for: Nazario Doesburg, Gerten Alphens, Gillaume Strooker, Ronaldo Iolud and Denilson Joekoe.
Guyana’s goals came in the first half through Captain, Kendolyn Lewis and in the final period it was Collyer Daniels who found the back of the net. At the interval Suriname led 4-1.
The IGG which was founded on football in 1967 saw for the first time the introduction of FUTSAL, replacing the ‘Beautiful Game’ and according to Suriname’s Coach, Prishad Parmessar it was a proposal made by Guyana, ”This as I understand is totally an idea of the Guyana Sports Commission to introduce FUTSAL in the Inter Guianas games”.
Coach Parmessar also told Chronicle Sport that he expected more from Guyana, “The games were easier than we expected because of the development Guyana has shown in recent years in field soccer we were expecting much stronger opposition. From what I see, the Guyanese players are Technically good but they are lacking Tactically”.
Parmessar stated that the infrastructure for FUTSAL was introduced in Suriname around 2000 or 2002 and since then it has grown to about 80 teams in both the schools and club systems, “Our FUTSAL season runs from January to April-May in the schools and from May to October for the clubs and what you find is the school players also play with clubs so they play a lot. We have various categories and age groups for both male and female and about 80 teams within the schools and the same amount of clubs as well”.
Parmessar also explained the difference between FUTSAL and field football, “In FUTSAL the space is smaller so within a minute you get more touches than the outdoor football. You have to think and act faster and the Physical aspect becomes of lesser importance. It is smartness and shorter sprints in FUTSAL”, the Surinamese described.
The Dutchman suggested that ‘what needs to be done is to put a proper infrastructure in place. Get FIFA assistance to build proper facilities and courses for Coaches. Without infrastructure you are wasting time”, Parmessar advised.
