Guyana’s U-19 FUTSAL team suffered a most humiliating defeat when the 2016 Inter Guiana Games (IGG) continued yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).

The 11-1 thrashing by Suriname in the 5-a-side version of the ‘Beautiful Game’ proved that the Guyanese lacked the experience of playing on wood surface and in a much smaller area, even though they held their own in the opening minutes of the one-hour encounter during which time Goalkeeper Bobby David brilliantly and consistently denied the visitors more goals.
Guyana took the lead after 7 minutes of play thanks to Douquan Wilson, but it was the home side’s only moment of joy as Suriname quickly took charge after finding a way to beat David. Terence Aroeman equalised from the Penalty mark in the 17th minute after Guyana accumulated five fouls, and within a minute he added another to give Suriname a 2-1 lead.
As though the flood gates were opened,Stefano McDonald blasted to David’s left from the Penalty mark within seconds to give the Dutch a half time 3-1 lead and the writing was on the wall.
In the second period the Surinamese continued their dominance as they poured in goal after goal while the Guyanese muffed 3 opportunities from the Penalty mark as Coach Challus McKinnon wrung the many changes in an attempt to stop the rampaging young Dutchmen. Nazario Doesburg’s four goals spearheaded the Dutch onslaught in the final half while there was one a piece for Elyah Pengel, Alphonso Gelton, Denilson Joekoe and Gillaume Strooker.
The trio who failed to convert Guyana’s penalties in the second-half were:Jeremy Garrett, O’Dell Gulliver and Collyer Daniels.
Coach McKinnon, while stating that he was disappointed with the result added that he was pleased with how the team played up to a point and is expecting the team to improve in the other two games today and possibly score a win.
The two sides meet again this morning at CASH, beginning at 09:00hrs and then at 13:00hrs in the afternoon.
