POLICE are investigating the circumstances in which a male juvenile sustained gunshot wounds to his body during a confrontation near the premises of the Republic Bank Limited at the corner of Waterloo and New Market Streets in North Cummingsburg, Georgetown on Friday morning.The police said a female security guard who was on duty at the time observed the young man in the compound of the bank at about 04:00hrs, taking away her handbag which she had left on a table. She raised an alarm and the suspect dropped the bag and scaled the fence.

The woman then alerted her supervisor from the Professional Guard Service, and a patrol responded shortly after.
A male fitting the description of the suspect was seen in the area and was confronted; and in the intervening process, a round discharged from the shotgun which was in the possession of a member of the security service patrol injured the suspect.

The suspect was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he underwent surgery for gunshot wounds to his face and body.
Police are investigating this incident.
