INDIA are in complete control of the second Test against West Indies after a KL Rahul century in Kingston, Jamaica yesterday.Rahul made his highest Test score – 158 – as India took a 162-run lead at stumps on day two at Sabina Park.
Cheteshwar Pujara (46), Virat Kohli (44) and Ajinkya Rahane (unbeaten 42) also made solid contributions.
India finished the day at 358-5, well in control after dismissing the hosts for 196 to begin the Test.
Shannon Gabriel (1-50) and Roston Chase (2-91) tried hard for the Windies, who are staring at a 2-0 series deficit.
The tourists had resumed at 126-1 and found the early going tough as Gabriel caused problems, bringing two edges that fell short of fielders.
Rahul eventually brought up his third Test century in some style, getting to the pitch of a Chase delivery and smashing a six over long-on.
India added just 59 runs, albeit without loss, in the first session before Rahul continued on his way, reaching his highest Test score.
The 121-run partnership was broken as Pujara ran himself out, caught short by a Chase direct hit despite a dive.
A hamstring injury to Test debutant Miguel Cummins added to the Windies’ worries before Rahul fell for 158, strangled down the leg side by Gabriel.
Chase took the big wicket of the in-form Kohli, who was caught at short leg by Rajendra Chandrika.
Ravichandran Ashwin (3) fell shortly after, but Rahane and Wriddhiman Saha (unbeaten 17) negotiated their way to stumps.(Omni Sport)
