Impressive piece in the Guyana Chronicle

Dear Editor,

GC’s “A visit to the National Museum”, dated June 12, 2016 and authored by Francis Quamina Farrier, was a very educational piece, especially to witness the photo image of the Austin Rolls Royce Princess motorcar, PR1, which was used by Guyana’s first Prime Minister, the late Forbes Burnham.Recently, I had a correspondence published with another black, classic British-made vehicle which is currently in a holding bay, and from my research, I was informed that it could have been the one used to chauffeur Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11 during a 1966 official state visit for Guyana’s Independence celebrations.

The said black antique/vintage vehicle could also have been the one to chauffer Forbes Burnham during a visit to the 1981 Mass Games at the National Park.

In the same holding bay, a white open-back Cadillac could be found. I was informed that that vehicle was used to chauffer the Queen and Husband to the Botanical Gardens during that same visit. Also it was used to chauffer General Gowon of Nigeria during a 1975 official state visit.

Mr. Francis Quamina Farrier, can you add or subtract from what I have just penned? It is my wish that the Government of Guyana, in collaboration with the British High Commission in Guyana, have those historic beauties restored and preserved.
Yours faithfully,
T. PEMBERTON
