Superb Warner shines again for Sunrisers

DAVID Warner’s superb form in IPL 2016 continued as Sunrisers Hyderabad earned a 15-run victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB), yesterday.Sunrisers were indebted to another excellent contribution from captain David Warner as they secured victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore by 15 runs.
The Australian has been in fine form in the Indian Premier League this season, registering scores of 58, 90, 74 and 59 in four of his six innings prior to yesterday’s meeting in Hyderabad.
And although Warner fell short of reaching three figures, his 92 from 50 balls at the top of the order provided his side with the platform to make 194-5.
Warner was well supported by Kane Williamson, who, on his first IPL appearance of the year, made 50 to further underline his class in all formats of the game.
RCB were well in the hunt thanks to Lokesh Rahul’s 51 off 28 deliveries, but the wicket of AB de Villiers (47 from 32) proved key as they finished 179-6.
After being put in and seeing Shikhar Dhawan depart for 11, Warner and Williamson set about building a superb stand of 124 that set the Sunrisers up for their imposing total.
Williamson was happy to take a back seat while Warner took on the role of aggressor, the Australian blasting nine fours and five sixes, while the Kiwi struck seven boundaries in his 38-ball knock.
Both fell in quick succession to raise RCB hopes of restricting the score, but Moises Henriques thumped three maximums in his 14-ball 31 to provide some late momentum.
Rahul set the tone in the Challengers’ reply, but he edged behind off Henriques (1-40) before Shane Watson (2) was run out by Barinder Sran’s direct hit from the boundary as he eased up near the crease.
De Villiers had been dropped on three and 17, but Williamson made no mistake on the long-on boundary as the game got away from RCB, who remain second from bottom while the victors moved up one place to fourth.
