… This evening’s Education Awards Ceremony still on
PERSISTENT rainfall yesterday forced the organisers of the Pele Football Club’s 45th Anniversary Celebrations to abandon the four matches between Pele and Santos which were planned for the Georgetown Football Club (GFC).Pele FC were down to play their counterparts from Santos at the Under-15, Under-17, Masters and Elite levels at the GFC ground, but because of the rainfall, parts of the club’s facility were under water making it impossible for any match to be played.
According to former national player and treasurer of the Pele Alumni of North America, Patrick `Labba’ Barton, the Education Awards Banquet scheduled for 18:00hrs today at the Georgetown Club, Camp Street, will go ahead as planned.
At this evening’s Education Awards Ceremony winners of the Schools Essay Competition that was facilitated by the Ministry of Education, will be presented with laptop computers and school assistance grants.
The Pele FC Alumni Corporation is a non-profit organisation, registered in the United States of America, and its vision is to empower children in Guyana through sports to help them to overcome their abject poverty by building their confidence, self-esteem and ambition through the power of sports.
