CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Thursday refused a miner his pretrial liberty after he was allegedly busted by Police with cocaine at his Tabatinga home last Tuesday. Orand Alfred, 47, of Tabatinga, Lethem denied that on March 29 he had 9½ grammes of cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.Alfred’s lawyer Jerome Khan asked for his client to be released on bail, pointing out that the drug had been found in his client’s yard over a fence and not in Alfred’s possession. Multiple people resided at the home, he said.
Police prosecutor Deniro Jones successfully opposed bail citing the gravity attached to such charges. According to Jones the narcotic was found in the accused’s back yard under dry bushes, which ranks unearthed in Alfred’s presence.
Chief Magistrate remanded the father of six and transferred his matter to the Lethem Magistrate’s Court for May 30.
