BHASKAR Yadram hit a composed hundred first up before off-spinner Joshua Persaud snatched a five-wicket haul to help Georgetown-Mahaicony Combined whip Essequibo Combined by 78 runs when the final of the National Secondary Schools Cricket League (NSSCL) Combine Elite League was played yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground.Essequibo Combined paid the price for some mediocre bowling and shoddy batting as they were outplayed in all departments of the game.

The visitors’ bowlers gave away too many runs in the first half of the Georgetown-Mahaicony Combined innings to allow the host to pile up a big total of 257-8.
Yadram, one of the country’s brightest talents, crafted a classy 106, and constructed an opening stand of 155 with Sachin Singh, who contributed only 48.
The duo’s partnership ensured that the decision by Orlando Jailall, the Essequibo Combined captain who opted to field first, quickly backfired.
Both batsmen rotated the strike efficiently. However, Yadram was unstoppable and kept pilling on the runs at will with some beautiful stroke play.
Yadram lost his opening partner to Joel Fortune, and after registering his hundred from 102 balls, he too was dismissed by Fortune at 162-2.
The left-hander’s innings spanned 106 balls, studded with ten fours and a six. Towards the fag end of the innings, Essequibo Combined got their act right with wickets falling at regular intervals.
Georgetown/Mahaicony Combined then lost Joshua Persaud (48), Alphius Bookie (2), Kurt Lovell (17), Christopher Campbell (9), Ashmead Nedd (6) and Mark Baptiste (2).
Fortune was the best bowler on show with 2-36. Bisham Moses also had 2-44, while Joshua Jones, Bomesh Ramdaaim and Shemar Dusrat claimed a wicket apiece.
In the run chase most of the Essequibo Combined batsmen were out on poor shot selections and they could not stitch any substantial partnership in the face of some tight bowling by the host bowlers, the highest being the 50 for the fourth wicket between Rayon Venture and Randy Rooplall.
Venture made a scratchy 48, while Joshua Jones (37) and Rooplall (23) were the other two batsmen to offer any sort of resistance.
They eventually folded for 179 off the last ball of their innings. Persaud, who made life difficult for the batsmen finished with figures of 5-20. Colin Barlow supported Persaud with 2-14.
Yadram was named Man-of-the-Match.
