THE newly outfitted Pepsi Hornets got off to a perfect start in their 2016 campaign with a 38 – 20 win over rivals Yamaha Caribs when the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) season opened yesterday at the National Park Rugby field.Veteran Walter George scored the first try of the game, putting the Ming’s Products and Service sponsored Caribs team in the lead as Theodore Henry made good of the conversion.

Henry then extended his side’s lead, scoring a penalty kick but Jose Feliciana, just before the stroke of half time, scored for the Hornets as the eventual winners closed the first stanza trailing 5 – 13.

Already trailing eight points, Hornets came out in the second half looking more composed and begun to claw their way back into the contest.

Rockford Cummings bullied his way past the Caribs’ defence to score a try and this seemed to open the flood gates, since Peabo Hamilton, Rawle Cole, Elwin Chase and Blaise Bailey all would’ve either scored a try or conversions to round off the Pepsi Hornets’ impressive victory.
