Volleyball programme set for Orealla/Siparuta

A 60-MEMBER delegation drawn from the Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) will today open a three-day outreach programme in the Amerindian communities of Orealla and Siparuta, some 70 miles up the Corentyne River.The delegation will be headed by the association’s president Levi Nedd and will include players and officials.
According to a release from the BVA, the main trust of the programme, which concludes on Sunday, will be to participate in a full-fledged volleyball programme that will include seminars and workshops dealing with coaching and refereeing.
Another focus of the outreach is to enhance the playing of beach and female volleyball as well as to get more youths involved in the sport.
A number of top Berbice teams, including five male teams and a female team, will be making the trip to impart their skills and participate in a two-day tournament.
The teams that are making the trip are: Port Mourant Training School, Port Mourant Jaguars, Albion United, D’Edward Three Door Strikers, #53 Survivors and the lone female team Black Birds.
The tournament is expected to involve 22 teams, 16 of which will be drawn from the Orealla and Siparuta areas. At the end of the competition, volleyball nets and balls will be presented to the host teams.
