RONDEL Holder, or “Disi” as his fans know him, hails from the village of Ann’s Grove on the East Coast of Demarara. The 20-year -old Guyanese was born on August 20, 1995 and is a Gospel Rap artiste who records at A.J. Records. He gets the nickname ‘Disi’ from his youth leader, who started calling him ‘Rondisimo’ in his early days of rapping at church concerts and church productions.
‘Disi’ has been following music all of his life, and dropped his first single on the social media ‘app’, Facebook, back in 2012. He has released multiple singles from an album in production called “Royalty”. He has performed with Music Unlimited and Solid Youth, and is currently featured on gospel singer extraordinaire, Samuel Medas’ new album, “Ink of Intimacy”.
‘Disi’ currently attends The University of Guyana, where he is pursuing a degree in Medical Technology while on attachment at The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. Asked what he does when not recording music, working or at school, he said he could be found on the basketball court “getting some shots in.” He is a basketball player on UG’s Under-23 club team, UG Trojans where he plays at centre position.
He credits his rap influences to icons like Lecrae,Tedashii, Flame and JB, and hopes, within the next five years, to be on tour, performing with every one of them. ‘Disi’ currently has a mix-tape also in production, which he hopes to release any day now along with the finished version of ‘Royalty’.
He is currently ironing out a contract with a Barbadian music label. ‘Disi’ has snagged a spot in the upcoming Gospel Fest Guyana 2016 Praise under the Open Sky concert on February 23. This promises to be a big year for fans of the young talented artiste and he assures the Guyanese public that he will not disappoint.
