Man with illegal gun refused bail

REUBEN Cavils, 24, of Baramita, Region 1, was refused bail when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on threatening language and firearms charges at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.Cavils pleaded not guilty to the charge that, on December 14, at Central Baramita, North West District, he made use of threatening language to Andre Coachman.

It also alleged that on the said day, in Central Baramita, he had a single-barrel shotgun in his possession even though he is not the holder of a firearm licence.

The matter was reported to the police, and Cavils was apprehended with the gun on his person.

He was refused bail on both charges, and is expected to be spending Christmas and New Year’s Day behind bars. The matter was transferred to Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court for February 1, 2016.
