THE curtains came down with a feast of goals when the SANNS Promotions Inter- Ministries and Corporation FUTSAL Tournament climaxed before a sizeable crowd at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) last Friday night.The Championship game produced 13 goals with the Tournament’s major sponsor – Banks DIH – overpowering the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by an 8-5 margin to lift the Trophy Stall winners’ trophy and $200,000.
James Meridith gave Banks the lead as early as the 3rd minute of play, but Courtney Britton leveled the score a minute later. Banks then regained the lead in the 7th minute through former national footballer Andre Trotz Snr. and in the 16th minute Devon Forde increased the lead which was reduced to 3-2 just before the half as Shemar Wilson converted for Foreign Affairs.
On the resumption, the Thirst Park based men quickly quenched their thirst for goals by racing to a 6-2 lead after 8 minutes of the 2nd stanza much to the delight of their many fans.
Eron Hayde (22nd), Forde (27th) and captain Phillip Rowley (28th) all added their names to the scorer’s list. The Foreign Affairs Unit urged on by their support clawed their way back to reduce the deficit to within a goal and five minutes to go.
Goals from Jeffrey Newton (30th), Godfrey Powers (34th) and Courtney Britton (35th) made the score 6-5 to set the stage for an exciting finish which was however short lied. Quick replies by Eric Moses (36th) and Trotz Snr. (37th) ended the fight and title hopes of Foreign Affairs who cashed in on a Trophy and $150,000 as runners-up.
The 3rd place play-off also delivered a 13-blitz goal-feast as the Ministry of Infrastructure schooled the Ministry of Public Health 10-3. Infrastructure received a trophy and $100,000.,while Public Health collected $50,000. and a trophy. The presentation of Individual awards will be made this coming week..
