Guyana NOT blacklisted – Attorney General

Guyana is nowhere close to being blacklisted by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), Attorney General and Legal Affairs Minister Basil Williams said earlier today, as he cleared up a misconception that was created by the previous People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Administration.
Having just returned from the Plenary Meeting in Paris, Williams said the current Government was applauded by Financial Action Task Force for the significant progress made in addressing the deficiencies of Guyana’s Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) legislation.
“…the main development in Guyana is the enactment of the AML/CFT Amendment Act 2015 which became enforceable on July 10, 2015,” Mr Williams said at a press conference at his Georgetown office. (Details in tomorrow’s issue)
