CARICOM SG extends condolences to Turkey

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has expressed the Community’s solidarity with the Government and People of Turkey as they mourn the loss of lives from the recent tragic bombings in the capital, Ankara.
Almost 100 persons were killed and scores injured from the twin explosions on 10th October.

“The Caribbean Community unreservedly condemns this callous and heinous terrorist act,” the Secretary-General said in his message of condolence. He said the Community shares the sorrow of those who lost loved ones and hopes for a speedy recovery for the injured.

“The deadly twin explosions have been made more tragic because they appeared to target persons taking part in a peace rally.  The innocent victims will have laid down their lives in defence of peace and of their right to freedom of association and expression,” he stated.

“The Community expresses its solidarity with the Government and People of Turkey at this moment of national mourning and joins with the families who have lost loved ones in sharing their sorrow and hopes for a speedy recovery of the many other persons who were injured,” Ambassador LaRocque said in his message.
