AN East La Penitence man was on Tuesday released on self-bail after he allegedly called his reputed wife a bitch and jumped the woman’s fence and kicked down her door. Eon Rafeek, 46, of 292 Freeman Street pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on September 25, at Freeman Street, he jumped over a fence, kicked down a door and called Ali Moses a bitch.
Rafeek explained that on the day in question he went to a nearby shop and upon his return his wife accused him of being drunk and locked him out.
The matter was presided over by city Magistrate Dylon Bess who initially ordered the accused to post $5,000 bail but after Rafeek told the magistrate he had no money, he was released on his own recognisance. He is expected to return to court on October 13 for trial.
On the day in question, around 20:00 hrs, Moses was at home when the defendant kicked down her door and called her a bitch. The court heard that the woman became scared and called out to neighbours who came to her rescue.
