THE Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions on Tuesday has confirmed that the file with statements regarding the $6M allegedly paid over to police ranks to release a minibus that was transporting a large quantity of cocaine on the Corentyne Highway is under review. This publication has learnt that the ranks who are under investigation have since been moved to the Tactical Services Unit headquarters in Georgetown, where the senior officer who was fingered in the corrupt deal is also under close arrest, as their court date nears.
It was also stated that the lone female who was also fingered in the probe was allowed to remain in Berbice, since there is no accommodation to keep her in Georgetown at the TSU base.
The minibus that was fetching the cocaine has been released and is still plying its normal Georgetown to Moleson Creek route under the same persons whom the police had intercepted with the drug.
Meanwhile, according to sources the senior police officer who is also fingered in the probe has not been receiving preferential treatment under close arrest, while his activities are being monitored. The ranks under investigation are likely to appear in court before the week is out.
