Vagrant jailed for stealing from Baroom Bar

SELF-confessed vagrant Bernard Shaw was yesterday jailed for nine months for breaking and entering the Baroom Bar at North Road, Bourda, Georgetown on Wednesday, September 16.Appearing before city magistrate Ann McLennan, the 41-year-old Shaw pleaded guilty to a charge which detailed that he broke and entered the Baroom Bar and stole therefrom one microwave and a gas cylinder, together valued at $47,000, property of Terone Hamilton.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones said Shaw does small work around bars, and does not have a fixed place of abode. He said that on the day in question, Hamilton had secured his business premises and left, but on his return he discovered the articles mentioned in the charge missing. The matter was reported to the police, the CCTV cameras were reviewed, and the convict was seen entering and leaving the premises.

Shaw was later seen at a nearby place, and was apprehended by the police and told of the offence.
The court was informed that both articles were recovered and lodged.

The unrepresented convict told the court that in 2006 he had served a two-year sentence for simple larceny. He begged for leniency, claiming that he is a sick person.
