40-year-old Arecuna woman scores

Melanie Albert, a 40-year Arecuna woman from Paruima in Region Seven was the first to score goal when the Indigenous Heritage Games began in Georgetown earlier today. Paruima is the only Arecuna community in Guyana. Melanie has been playing football for the past 15 years, but admits that at age 40, she can’t go as fast as before. She has two sons; the oldest, at age 18, is a national swimmer.
