UNITED States-based Guyanese athlete Euleen Josiah-Tanner has registered her name for the 5th edition of the annual COURTS Guy. Inc. 10K road race set for Sunday.According to president of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) Aubrey Hudson, Josiah-Tanner has confirmed her participation in the much-anticipated event by way of registration.
Hudson said he saw Tanner’s registration but has not seen her personally to confirm if she is indeed in Guyana.
The U.S.-based athlete has been the most dominant female road race runner of the event, having won all of the four previous editions.
Josiah-Tanner will no doubt be the one to beat on race day.
Over the years, Tanner has won the prestigious CARICOM 10K Road Race and has placed in the top order of the Caribbean’s leading 10K races.
Unlike last year, she is expected to get keen competition from Alika Morgan who was not a part of last year’s COURTS 10K event, as she was on national duty in Indonesia.
Josiah-Tanner was expected to have been a part of last Sunday’s Massy 10K Run which Morgan won quite easily in a time of 42 minutes .08 seconds, and if Tanner should show up for this Sunday’s event, then it will be a `different kettle of fish’ as the saying goes.
Hudson told Chronicle Sport Tanner did not register for the Massy race last Sunday, but she has done so for this Sunday’s event.
Tanner, who has been competing in and out of the Region for quite some time with insurmountable success, clocked 38 minutes 30.09 seconds in winning last year’s COURTS race and has since been branded `owner of the event’.
The race will have five categories, namely juniors (16-19), seniors (men 30-34), women (30-39), masters (women 35 and over), masters (men 40-54) and masters (men 56 and over).
All categories will attract cash prizes and trophies.
The route of the race begins in front of COURTS, Main Street, proceeds north to Seawall Road, east along Seawall Road, continues east along the Rupert Craig Highway northern carriageway to turn at Church Road, Rupert Craig Highway’s southern carriageway into Kitty Public Road, south on Vlissengen Road, west on Lamaha Street, south on the eastern carriageway on Main Street, turn around at the Cenotaph, to finish on the western carriageway on Main Street in front of COURTS.
