THE Guyana Football Federation (GFF) yesterday officially launched the revised Genesis fixtures for the inaugural Stag Elite League which starts tomorrow with a double- header at the Leonora Sports Facility.Guyana’s top eight football clubs have been crafted together to battle for supremacy but only four teams will advance to the ‘League Genesis Playoff’ which signals the break in the league on November 29.
The League then resumes in February 2016 with the other half which has been dubbed the ‘Finale’.
Headlining tomorrow night are the 2015 Kashif and Shanghai champions Slingerz Football Club, and the runners-up Alpha United, who square off in the feature match from 21:30hrs.
This match promises to be an entertaining one since the two sides have been at the pinnacle of football locally. However, they have only met twice. Alpha won on the first occasion over a year ago then Slingerz exacted their revenge in the K&S Tournament.
After tomorrow’s match, Slingerz and Alpha are scheduled to meet again in the last of the 56-match preliminary round on November 22 before the two-day League Genesis Playoff unwinds on November 27.
Prior to that showdown, Guyana’s two oldest clubs, Pele and Georgetown Football Club (GFC), will lock horns in the league’s opening match from 18:00 hrs.
The action continues the following day at the No.5 Ground, West Coast of Berbice, as Buxton battle Fruta Conquerors at 18:00hrs then Monedderlust.
The simple launch was attended by the GFF technical director Claude Bolton, Golden Jaguars head coach Jamaal Shabazz, director of Marketing and Communications, Rawle Toney, as well as representatives from two of the teams that compete on the opening night.
