PRESIDENT of the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GCF) John Flores disclosed that the federation will be receiving support from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) following a meeting with members of the South American Confederation during a Volleyball Congress.
Flores was able to secure support in the form of coaches for early 2016 to help the sport progress, during the Peru-hosted event.
The GVF president said, “At the regional level the confederation said they are looking at the issue of sending coaches and hosting referee courses early next year. So basically I’ve managed to get some technical help for this new body.”
He believes technical support has always been an area of weakness in the sport locally. This is why the executive has commitment itself to ensure Guyana gets support and a solid infrastructure.
According to Flores, a draft of the job description for the coach, if all the plans fall into place, would be to basically assist all the clubs and national teams during preparatory stages.
Flores is also hoping that the arrival of a referee can be confirmed for October or November of this year which will go a long way in assisting the federation’s plan to move forward.
Meanwhile, a cheque for $400 000 was presented to the GVF to assist with the airfare to Brazil for the 15-member National Volleyball team.
Nicolette Henry, Junior Minister within the Ministry of Education, was pleased her Ministry could assist for the upcoming CSV Male indoor Championship, set for Maceio, Brazil from September 27 to October 5.
Flores thanked the Guyana Government for its contribution which he said should go a long way in helping with the cost of the trip and promised the minister that the team will give of their best in Brazil. A return air ticket to Brazil costs approximately US$1,200.
Last Thursday the Reds Perreira Foundation presented $200 000 to Flores to assist with the trip event.
