THERE was no practice yesterday for cars and bikes ahead of the third leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship after the containers in which they were packed and shipped arrived late at the Bushy Park Raceway, Barbados. The containers arrived in Barbados at approximately 13:04hrs Thursday and, according to chairman of Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc., Sean Maloney, the rate at which the cars were cleared was ‘unprecedented’.
He added, “The only thing I’ve seen cleared this fast was Lewis Hamilton’s Formula 1 car” (during the BCC top Gear Festival Barbados last year). “We really appreciate the work that Customs has done. We are very grateful.”
However, the lack of any practice yesterday meant that there would be an even limited time for those overseas riders and drivers to get familiar with the layout, elevation and depression of the track.
Officials of the BPMSI have confirmed that they will be on site from 06:00hrs to facilitate practice for drivers and riders until 08:30hrs when their marshals will take to the track to assume positions and test further equipment.
Official free practice has been set at 10:30hrs today following the completion of the tests by marshals with qualifications expected to commence from 14:00hrs.
Guyanese competitors were relieved to see their machines finally when the first seal was cut at 17:05hrs yesterday and started right away with their various works in an attempt to catch early morning practice.
The team includes at the Group 4 level, Mark Vieira, Kristian and Kevin Jeffrey and Danny Persaud, the lone competitor to run in Groups 4 and 3.
In Group 2 there is Nazim Gafoor while the bikes have Stephen, Matthew and Elliot Vieira, Joel Neblett and Kevin Persaud.
