SEVENTEEN-year-old Karim Shivratan went to the aid of two female passengers who were being robbed by two men at gunpoint in a minibus at Agricola Public Road, East Bank Demerara yesterday at about 08:20 hrs and ended up sustaining gunshot injury to his chest.

Police reported that two men who had joined a minibus at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, requested to be put off at Agricola. And as the vehicle stopped, they held up the two passengers — Natasha Rampersaud, 33, and Lalita Narine, 53, of Diamond Housing Scheme — and relieved them of their jewellery. Shivratan, who was in the vicinity when the crime was being committed, went to the assistance of the women and was shot. He has been admitted to hospital, but investigations are in progress.
