KMTC Emancipation meet to be replaced next month

THE Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club’s (KMTC) Emancipation horse race meet which was originally set for August at the club’s facility will now be replaced with another meet next month. This information was made available by the KMTC’s secretary Nikita Ross who told Chronicle Sport that the Emancipation meet had to be abandoned due to the high tides during late July that topped the seawall and flooded the race facility.
Ross informed that the Bush Lot Farm venue is still under water and the Regional Democratic Council (Region 6) promised to remedy the situation.
According to local horse race followers, the meet was rescheduled for this month, but Ross said it was and still is impossible to stage a race meet at the venue this month because of the condition of the race course. She was informed that there will be more high tides this month and this might affect the staging of a race meet at the venue for some time.
Ross informed that Justice Cecil Kennard is currently on leave and it would not be until his return that a final decision will be made.
The abandoned Emancipation meet was expected to attract over 65 of Guyana’s top race horses and with the postponement one will have to wait and see what plays out.
