THE American University of Peace Studies Inc. (AUPSI), with a focus on promoting personal growth and sustainable human development, continues to focus on the teaching of life skills and peace studies to complement today’s societal needs.In this regard, the institution said it is currently rolling out training programmes aimed at teaching life skills and personal development to a wide cross-section of Guyanese.

To this end, the Board of Directors will on Saturday hold a one-day workshop on ‘Conflict Resolution at Work and at Home’ to benefit members of the public.
The workshop, which begins at 14:00 hrs, will be held at the American University of Peace Studies Inc., Sheriff and Fourth Street, Campbellville. The registration fee of US$15 (GY$3,000) will also enable a participant to obtain a certificate and refreshments.
Issues to be covered include:
* Taking control of your situation
* Root causes of conflict
* Understanding behaviour and mental processes
* Effective Conflict Resolution
* Emotional Intelligence and more
Meanwhile, on June 30 last, the University conducted a Psychology Symposium under the theme: ‘Endless Possibilities with Psychology.’ During the training, there was interaction on health, emotions and memory, solving problems and making decisions.
The forum, with main speaker was Dr Eton Simon, President of the AUPSI, was well received, attracting some sixty persons. Teaching techniques included simulation by students of the institution.
The first of its kind in Guyana, the University aims to deliver life skills programmes based on higher learning and to conduct research on issues vital for the promotion and sustainability of peace among individuals, groups and nations. It also seeks to bring about inner peace and to stimulate co-operation and unity among peoples of all races, and not least, to reduce conflict and promote non-violence, according to Dr Eton Simon.
Other programmes include: Counselling, Child Psychology, Psychotherapy, Stress Management, Human Resource Management, Leadership Development, Strategic Marketing and more.
