Persons urged to take precaution during April 1-7 high tides

PERSONS are urged to take all necessary precautions during the spring tides period of April 1-April 7, 2015, as the predicted tide indicates above normal levels for this period, according to the Ministry of Public Works The Ministry in a statement said that the Sea and River Defence Department considers areas on the Essequibo Coast, Wakenaam Island, Leguan Island, parts of Georgetown and Berbice, in particular, are susceptible to possible flooding as a result of storm surges which may include overtopping of sea/river defence structures.

Moreover, the Ministry advised that the areas listed, including persons residing along the banks of rivers and low-lying coastal areas are advised to take all necessary precautions against possible flooding.
The statement highlighted that precaution should also be taken by all mariners, including those operating fishing vessels and larger vessels. Meanwhile, use of beaches and foreshore areas for recreational purposes during this period is not advised.
