Gold miner denies robbery with violence charge

A GOLD miner was yesterday granted $100,000 bail on a robbery with personal violence charge at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. Komal Khan of Lot 171 Triumph, East Coast Demerara made his appearance before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and denied the allegation against him.
It is alleged that on March 1 at Laing Avenue, Georgetown, being in the company of others, he robbed Parmanand Rabindranauth of a cellular phone to the value of $4,000 and $7,000 in cash. In addition, he made use of personal violence during, before or after the offence was committed.
Representing the prosecution was Police Corporal, Bharat Mangru. He told the court that both parties are known to each other. He disclosed that on the day in question Khan along with three others went to Laing Avenue and robbed Rabindranauth of the articles stated in the charge. Subsequently, the matter was reported and Khan was arrested and charged for the offence.
The matter was transferred before Magistrate Annette Singh for statements on March 24.
