Elderly porter fined, bonded for abusive language

FIFTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD porter, Clifton Walters of ‘A’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown appeared yesterday before City Magistrate Ann McLennan on an abusive language charge, which detailed that on December 2, at East La Penitence, Georgetown, he verbally abused Cheryl Dick, wherein a breach of the peace may be occasioned..

Police Prosecutor Dinero Jones told the court that the parties once shared a relationship but are now separated. However, Walters is always in the habit of abusing Dick.

The court heard that, on the day in question, Walters went to Dick’s home, accused her of having an affair, and started to abuse her. The matter was reported to the police, and Walters was arrested and charged.

The unrepresented Walters asked for forgiveness, stating that he now accepts the fact that Dick has moved on with her life, and he said he is happy once she is happy.

Walters was fined $2500, and was bonded to keep the peace for 12 months, with a default of 4 weeks’ imprisonment.
