GDF lieutenant granted $200,000 bail on causing death charge

A TWENTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD lieutenant attached to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) was on Monday granted $200,000 bail on a causing death charge.

Anthony Eastman of Well Road, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the charge that said on November 1, 2013 at Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, he dove motor vehicle PPP 2210 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Ronald Gonsalves.

Representing the defendant was attorney-at-law Mr. Armstrong. He requested bail in a reasonable sum, stating that his client is not a flight risk and has been cooperating with the police during investigations.

Eastman was ordered to post bail and return to court on October 21.
