THIRTY–six–year-old Rohan ‘Janko’ Teekaram of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara allegedly chopped his brother, thirty-year-old Jairam ‘Nasho’ Teekaram, to death after a heated argument at their home late Easter Monday morning.

The incident allegedly stemmed from ‘Nasho’ allowing his friend, ‘Buck Boy’, to stay by the two unemployed brothers.

Janko has been arrested, and is in police custody assisting with investigations.

One neighbour, Hamewattie Latchmandin, told this publication that the two brothers would usually fight when intoxicated. She said that ‘Nasho’ had arrived home at about 11.00pm on Sunday night, and was apparently already in bed when ‘Janko’ arrived home at about 1:00hr on Monday morning and started hitting the door in a very aggressive manner, waking up the neighbourhood.

When ‘Nasho’ opened the door for Janko, Janko began to beat ‘Buck Boy’ who was at their home at the time, screaming as he did: “Y’all come out this f***ng house! Y’all don’t have f***ing money!” Buck Boy then ran out the house limping, leaving the two brothers arguing.

“A few minutes after, we heard things ‘brucking up’ and the two brothers started to fight, as they usually do; so we didn’t pay them (any) attention, because every time they fight they always make up back.
“After we heard things ease down, we went and sleep. So, in the morning when I woke up, I saw “Janko” walking around and doing his daily routine. He was cooking, and then he went to work,” the neighbour said.

“As the day continued, we didn’t see ‘Nasho’, so we were thinking that the lashes he received Monday morning he might have moved out.

“Tuesday morning, when my husband woke up, he was at the back, at the guava tree to pick some. As he turned, he saw someone’s foot was showing in the grass wrapped in a vinolay. He then alerted the rest of (the) neighbours to come across to see if it was ‘Nasho’, but we didn’t touch (the body).

“He then went to ‘Nasho’ son’s home to see if ‘Nasho’ was there, but the son say he wasn’t there; so when we return, we were able to identify ‘Nasho’. His body was chopped up, and we called the police,” Latchmandin said.

The yard where the incident occurred is said to belong to Rudolph Chan, who is now in prison.

When the police arrived on the scene, the entire community of Kaneville was shocked and surprised at ‘Nasho’s’ death, since he used to help out everyone a lot.

‘Nasho’ has left to mourn his only son, who lives with the wife Nasho had divorced.
