Beacon Ministries Golf Tournament

THIS year’s Beacon Ministries-sponsored, Lusignan Golf Club-organised golf tournament will tee off tomorrow at 12:00hrs and will see some of Guyana’s top golfers vie for top honours in what is expected to be an evenly contested tournament. The much anticipated tournament, which will be played under the Medal Play Format with three prizes for the best net in four separate flights, will have lots of prizes and giveaways while it has been creating a good buzz among the players.
The Men’s Handicap 0-9, 10-18, 19-28 will form three flights and female golfers will play in an open flight. There are three prizes for the overall best net players which will determine the winner of the tournament, nearest to the pin, long drive and shot of the day – all to be awarded.
Last year’s winner Alfred Mentore, who is currently in good form, is set to defend his title against some other players who have been showing tremendous form of late, such as Mohanlall ‘Santo’ Dinnanauth, who in the past two weeks has won the Nearest to Pin title, having done so when this said tournament was played for the first time last April.
Continental Group of Companies golf winner Shanella Webster and Kalyan Tiwari are players with good showings in the past weeks as well, thus underlining the battle which will be anticipated at the Lusignan, East Coast Demerara-based club tomorrow.
Head of the local Beacon Ministries, Archbishop Dr Philbert London, who is a lover of the game, said his Ministries is very pleased to be a part of golf in Guyana and even quoted Bob Hope by saying, “If you watch a game it’s fun if you play it it’s recreation but if you work at it it’s golf”.
Chatterpaul Deo, the club captain, stated he is very pleased with the number of players set to play this tournament, while his vice-captain Dave Mohamad says he is very happy with a tournament of this magnitude this early in the season and is very thankful to the Ministries.
The presentation of prizes won will follow the match and players need to confirm their participation for this tournament early.
