Simple larceny accused must post $250,000 bail each

TW0 men charged with simple larceny were each placed on $250,000 bail, when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday. Juan Samuels, 33, a mechanic of Lot 557 Moraballi Street, Mackenzie, Linden and Michael Edmondson, 27, a miner (no address given), were not required to plead to the indictable charge that said, on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at Noitgedacht in the Essequibo Magisterial District, they stole one hydraulic pump among other things, together valued $8.45 M, property of Axel Marcel.
Police Inspector Michael Grant, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant left his excavator, which had broken down in the interior, to be repaired and, when the mechanic went to repair it, he saw the two accused next to the machine and the items mentioned in the charge at the back of a 4X4 vehicle.
But, after they spotted the mechanic, they drove away and the repairer discovered the parts missing and made a report to the police.
The prosecutor, while not objecting to the grant, asked that bail should be a substantial amount, with conditions attached.
The accused were represented by attorney-at-law Mr. Michael Somersall and their case was transferred to Mahdia Court for April 14.
