Other woman fined $75,000 for wounding wife

THIRTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD Carmen Johti (no address given), was on Monday fined $75,000 with the alternative of 100 days imprisonment after being convicted, by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, of wounding Kamlawattie Jagdai on February 27, 2013.

The Court was told that Jagdai, after seeing her husband’s lover, went into the nearby MARA and Sons General Store in New Amsterdam, Berbice, to avoid the other woman.
But Johti followed her and, armed with a “black handle knife”, inflicted several wounds to the face of the virtual complainant, as she was purchasing cellular phones.
The former reported the wounding attack at the Central Police Station in the same town.
Prior to imposing the penalty on Johti, the magistrate observed that the police did not tender any medical certificate for Jagdai’s injuries.
