Guyanese among 10 fined for illegal entry

TWO women and eight men were, each, fined $30,000 with the alternative of two weeks imprisonment, by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, for illegal entry into Guyana.The women, Vences Elizabeth Mohamed and Bertha Rodriquez De Ohonas, were convicted together with Kenedy Jose Manjanito, Jhon Kendel Majamito, Juan Esleban Diaj, Juis Orlando Callejas, Jesus Farrota Martinez, Hernando Ramirej Flores, Oscar Jarojona Martinez and James Jrisna Peinado, all of whom pleaded guilty.
They accepted that, on Saturday, January 18, at Charity, Essequibo Coast, they entered this country by sea and disembarked without the consent of an immigration officer.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Jerome Khan, who entered appearance for Kenedy Jose Manjanito, said all of them obtained legal visas in Venezuela.
But upon entry, their passports were not stamped at the port where they arrived and were considered illegal aliens.
The lawyer indicated that, among the defendants, Mohamed is a Guyanese.
