On $15,000 bail for theft of tub, bicycle

A FARMER of Lot 2521 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was yesterday placed on $15,000 bail for stealing a tub and a pedal cycle. Before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, Dexter Grant pleaded not guilty to the offence that said between November 5 and 6, at North Road, also in Georgetown, he stole from Nikita Williams one tub and a pedal cycle together valued at $21,300.
Police prosecutor Corporal Bharat Mangru did not object to the pretrial liberty of the unrepresented defendant.
However, surety was granted in the sum of $25,000, but Grant pleaded with the Chief Magistrate that he cannot afford the amount, since he only has $15,000 at home. Hence, the latter was granted a bail reduction to that amount, and the case was put off for November 19.
