Newspaper vendor dies after colliding with van

CHRONICLE newspaper vendor Bhagwandeen Naraine, of Lima Housing Scheme on the Essequibo Coast, who was involved in an accident on the Sparta Public Road at around 12:30hrs Wednesday, died while receiving medical attention at the Suddie Hospital some four hours later.

Reports say the newspaper vendor, who sustained serious injuries to his body and right leg, died just after doctors had amputated his damaged leg.
According to reports, he was selling newspapers at Sparta village when the motor cycle he was driving collided with a speeding van.
He was knocked off his bike on impact and hurled to the road parapet while his damaged motor cycle was pitched some distance away and landed in front of the Sparta Mandir.
Sheets from the newspapers were flying all over the public road as scores of residents rushed from their homes to assist the badly injured man. The van that was transporting some four hundred pounds of frozen plucked chicken to Charity, crashed into a nearby drain after hitting the motor cycle and its rider. Reports say the driver escaped with minor injuries.
Police have arrested the driver of the van and investigations are ongoing.
